Halloween

We went to two Halloween parties on the Sunday before Halloween.  Jason was a Jester, Megan was a Huntress and Kora was Elsa.

This was Kora's costume number 2 that
she wore to preschool for her class party.
And this is costume number 3
that she wore trick or treating.

She received several costumes for her birthday and she couldn't decide which one she like the best.

Carving Pumpkins

We did our annual pumpkin carving on Saturday evening.  They each picked out the pumpkin they wanted and choice what kind of face they wanted to have.

Jason carved his pumpkin by himself.

Pumpkin Patch

We went to Berry Acres Pumpkin Patch in Minot, ND on October 22 with cousins Jakob and Jordin.
Kora's favorite thing was the barrel rides.
Jordin rode in a barrel too.
Nothing better than swimming through a box of corn.
Jakob and Megan working together on the pedal cart.
Cousins!

6th Grade Football

Jason is playing football again this year.  The 6th grade team plays contact with full equipment.  They scrimmage against themselves and rotate through all the positions.  He likes playing safety the best.  It's a good thing that he has orange and white shoes.  It's hard to tell who everyone is because they do not have numbers on their jerseys.

Kora's 5th Birthday Party

We had Kora's 5th Birthday Party on Saturday, October 1.  She chose a Sleeping Beauty theme this year so everything was pink.  The weather was beautiful so we were able to have the party outside.

Kora wanted a piñata this year since she saw videos of piñatas we had at Megan and Jason's birthday parties when they were younger.  I couldn't find one with Sleeping Beauty on it, so I made one out of boxes and tissue paper and crepe streamers.  I used a box that had a lid, so it ended up being hard to break apart.  But it worked out that it took a long time to break, because all the kids got to hit it many times.  It took Jason and Jakob hitting it pretty hard before it started to come apart.

Go Karts and Mini-Golf

We did our once a year Mini-golf and Go Karts on Sunday.  Megan got a hole in one just like last year.  Jason and Jesse were competing to see who would get a better score.  Jesse won by one point.  Kora had several holes where it took her only two shots to get the ball in the hole, even without moving the ball closer.

Then Jason, Jesse, and Kora drove the Go-Karts.  Megan didn't want to drive or ride along.  Jesse started out driving slow for Kora, but she told him to go faster.  Jason is pretty speedy in the Go-Kart.  He would slow down to let Jesse and Kora pass him at times to make it more interesting.  Then Jason would speed up and pass them again.

Duck Banding

The Agassiz National Wildlife Refuge was banding ducks on Saturday evening.  It was open to the public so we decided to take the kids so they could see the process.  There were a ton of people there, and we had to wait over an hour before they netted the ducks, but it was worth it once they got to hold the ducks.  Megan and Jason held male mallards and Kora held a wood duck.  Megan was in heaven.  She loves animals, so this was perfect for her.  Even though there were a lot of people there, the staff were good about letting everyone hold or touch a duck that wanted to.

Big Bog State Recreational Area

We camped at Big Bog State Recreational Area on August 20 through the 22nd.  We walked the mile long boardwalk into the bog to see Megan and Jason's favorite plants the pitcher plants that eat insects.

We also fished at Ludlow pond and the kids caught lots of little blue gills.  They had a contest to see who could catch the most, the smallest, and the largest.  Kora got the largest, Megan caught the most, and Jason caught the smallest.

We had to climb the fire tower two times again like last year.
Kora walked up and down all the steps.
